Chapter 2 Blog Post

Chapter 2 discusses how computer-mediated communication (CMC) affects identity formation, social networking, online culture and power, and more. CMC first began with discussion boards and emails, but it has evolved drastically over time. It has been a wonderful way for people from all over the world to connect with one another and network. CMC has even allowed people to overcome physical and psychological limitations. However, when people prefer online interaction it can be problematic because it can cause loneliness. It is important for people to realize that CMC, whether it be email or social media, is simply a tool to help face to face communication flourish! In most cases, CMC is used to help maintain relationships instead of establish. CMC and social media could also be used to advocate for societal issues and help people gain power in the real world, whether it be in their community or their own small business.
